Hello World!
Anyone who's ever learned any kind of programming has almost certainly seen those words a few times - "Hello World!". It's what many languages get you to do in your first tutorial, as if to say, 'Hey, you're up and running now, good job!'. So it seemed fitting for me to choose it, given my day job involves a lot of nerdtastic things like programming, and that these are my first steps in the Tabletop Mentorship Program.
My name's Adam, and I'm forty-something and live in Cornwall, that bit on the south-west of England that sticks out into the Atlantic. I'm a would-be board game reviewer who set himself up with a site (hey look, a link the the very same site!) and a purpose last year. I've really enjoyed what I've done so far, and really enjoyed the people I've met, and the things I've learned by myself.
I was scrolling through Twitter a little while ago when I saw a tweet about this program go by, so I stopped and took the time to read it. I'm a firm believer in improving myself, and I love learning. So with that in mind, I signed up for the mentorship.
I put myself forward to be a mentee, rather than a mentor, as I wanted to improve two things. Firstly, my writing. I write reviews, rather than film myself, and paradoxically while I know I could write much better than I do, but never actually do it. I want to improve the quality of my writing, and try to get some more of my personality and feeling out there, into my work. Secondly, I want to make connections, meet more amazing people, and spread my reach with what I do. I guess we'll see how that goes.
I've met my mentor, he's a really nice chap, and I'll touch more on how that's going in future updates. But for now, we've already met, and already worked on what, and how I'm posting. My first review with the changes in mind is live now - The Castles of Burgundy (Anniversary Edition). Go check it out if you've got a minute or two, I'd love to know what you think.
Until next time!
